An excellent opportunity has arisen to join one of the worlds leading investment banks as a Senior Sybase Database Administrator within its infrastructure department. The successful candidate will work as part of a dedicated DBA team providing DBA services as there is a very high degree of proficiency in core administrative functions in Sybase ASE and Replication technologies.
Description
The global DBA team:
Works with development teams to architect/deliver database servers for all of banks IT needs
Maintains and monitors availability of the database servers 24x7x365
Delivers database systems that are highly available and capable of supporting the business during a disaster recovery scenario
Provides services to developers, such as query optimization assistance and troubleshooting support
High degree of proficiency in core administrative functions in Sybase ASE 12/12.5 and above and Replication technologies 12/12.5/12.6
Strong administrative and troubleshooting skills in Oracle and MSSQL Server preferred.
Exposure to Oracle 10g/RAC would be a plus
In depth knowledge of performance & tuning (dataserver & code), key configuration parameters, version features, platform specific replication technologies.
Significant experience in delivering projects
Able to demonstrate their ability to work independently with development teams and the central DBA team.
Installing, upgrading, and maintenance of Sybase, Oracle, and Microsoft DBMS on Sun Solaris, Linux and WinTel platforms.
Efficient troubleshooting skills and ability to mitigate all risks, to ensure uninterrupted availability.
Document and enforce all database architecture and relevant procedures according.
Have a thorough understanding of DBA standards, processes and policies.
Requirements
7 - 10 years of experience in Sybase DBA
Experience in installing, upgrading, and maintenance of Sybase, Replication server, Oracle, and Microsoft DBMS on Sun Solaris
Experience in Scripting.
Experience on Linux and WinTel platforms desirable
Efficient troubleshooting skills and ability to mitigate all risks, to ensure uninterrupted availability.
Lead a team of skilled DBAs to deliver on the same platforms, mentor them as required.
Effectively manage client relationships and improve process, tools and policies.
Document and enforce all database architecture and relevant procedures accordingly.
Proactively monitor resource utilisation to meet expected service levels.
Proactive review of database configuration, security, P&T, capacity planning, and db monitoring.
Participation in 24*7*365 on-call rota and weekend work in support of project deliverables.
Ensure production stability by reducing the following - Repeat alerts - DBA spy violations - Dump violations, etc .
Troubleshooting and correcting database issues in an efficient and timely manner
Mitigating all risks and ensuring uninterrupted continuation of the business flow.
Expected to be able to comfortably manage client relationships and expectations.
Expected to be able comfortably coordinate and manage meetings and represent DBA policies, standards and supported technologies.
Project manage, own and report on all Global Initiatives.
Identify areas of inefficiency with processes and workflow and mitigate them
